Bayford Boaters scoop bronze medal
Bank holiday Monday saw the aptly named Bayford Boaters take part in a Dragon Boat race; all in aid of their head office’s chosen charity, Martin House Hospice for Children & Young People.
Taking on a field of thirty, the 10 Bayford Boaters and their brave drummer – Supply Analyst, Judy Yu, took first place in heat one and second places in heat two and three. This guaranteed them a semi-final spot, where the team secured their place in the final with a win and the second fastest time of the day – a very quick 56.61 seconds.
Armed with ores in hand, the Bayford Boaters battled to third place in the final, a great achievement by all involved! The bronze medals and support by fellow colleagues cheering from the sidelines was well worth the sunburn and stiff shoulders that followed the next day.
The team also raised a total of £450 raised for the day – to add to the £1,800 already raised through various staff activities for Martin House in the last year.
Adam Walsh, Marketing Manager and rower commented on the day, “We had a great day. To get to the final with a team of non-rowers and compete like we did – was just brilliant! What was even better was that we were able to raise some money for Martin House. It’s a great charity and we will be looking for more ways to support them over the next few months…when we’re not in training for a gold medal in next years Dragon Boat race!”
